This piece marks my return to the art of charcoal drawings after a five year break. This would be the genesis of centering Black women in my work. The subject’s hands covering her face serve as both a shield and a statement - she embodies style, unapologetic presence, and also ironically hiding emotional vulnerability. Having struggled with feeling seen in my childhood, this piece captures the tension between hiding and commanding visibility and presence through its large scale.  . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
